BIOBEST’S rabies testing laboratory is fully operational again following a major upgrade to its facilities.
The full-service veterinary laboratory in Milton Bridge, near Penicuik, Scotland, has undergone critical upgrades - including a new effluent treatment plant - to allow it to maintain the highest containment levels required for rabies testing.
The improvements will also strengthen its ability to deliver a reliable, high-quality service with minimal future disruption.
Stuart Marshall, Biobest’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “It’s fantastic to see the lab up and running again.

“We know this has been a difficult time for many of our customers, and we truly appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding during this time.
“These upgrades have been a huge team effort, and our lab is now equipped with state-of-the-art containment systems, among the best in the industry, which will help us offer the highest standard of testing and customer service.”
As routine rabies testing services resume, Biobest has also made two new key appointments to its team.
Kirsty Martin will lead routine testing operations as Rabies Testing Supervisor, while Jennifer Bunyan, Biobest’s Lab Operations and Project Manager, will oversee the daily operational management of the high containment laboratory.
Both took part in a ceremonial ribbon-cutting marking the reopening of the facility. To help prioritise urgent cases, Biobest is offering a rabies express service at half price until July 31. Standard testing remains at normal prices.
